Residents of Onigbongbo Community-Women

The fourth session of community cervical cancer screening by visual inspection with acetic acid [VIA] was carried out at Onigbongbo Public Health centre at 24 Araromi Street Onigbongbo on 22nd August 2009. It was conducted by four medical doctors and three nurses under the aegis of MRH Research Collective and NURTURE Health Services and Solution.

Community women were given health talk by Dr. Abiara and Dr. Okunowo, as it relates to general and reproductive health issues. There was an interactive Question and Answer session, where various reproductive health related questions were discussed.

Cervical cancer screening by VIA was carried out on 40 community women. 36 women were adjudged VIA negative and counseled on repeat screening in 3 years, 2 women adjudged VIA positive and other 2 with inconclusive results were referred to LUTH for further evaluation.

Women with other pathologies were given treatment and referred to health facilities for further treatment and follow up.
